Lex Cuyten · Founder
The Founding
It all starts with two brothers
Lex and his brother Ron had been fishing with their own recipes and various brands since they were kids. After a few sponsorship deals, it became clear to Lex: I can do this better myself. With a Chamber of Commerce registration number, they could buy ingredients directly and create the best recipes—at first just for themselves and their fishing buddies to keep costs down. Among their first original mixes was the Drukz, born from an incredibly high-quality krill meal that we were able to source directly. Word of mouth did the rest; a website was launched, and the ball started rolling.

Luca's — the all-rounder
In addition to the complex, nutrient-rich recipes, there was a need for a simpler, hearty sweet boilie for rivers and large bodies of water—one that could withstand currents, strong winds, whitefish, and crabs. Our good friend Luca had been producing a recipe in Belgium for years. With his permission, we adopted most of that recipe—and his name: the Luca’s were born.

The first insect meal boilie from the Netherlands
In a TV interview, Lex saw an entrepreneur who was raising flies to produce meal as a meat substitute. He called the next day—the entrepreneur had never considered our industry, but did have a test batch of 80 kg on hand. A unique, complete recipe was developed. The insect meal was still quite pricey, though, which is why Apex was truly viewed as a high-quality bait in the market.

Tough Choices — The Spartans Join In
The Luca's and Drukz performed fantastically; huge numbers of carp were caught with them. It was precisely the more expensive Spicy Red (developed in collaboration with legend Leo Westdorp, containing 20% Robin Red) and the Apex, made with expensive insect meal, that were phased out. Replacing them were the Spartans: the savory, harder counterpart to the Luca’s for tougher conditions, packed with animal proteins and fats.

The therapeutic farm becomes a family
After years of building the brand, Erik came on board. A fisherman through and through, he’d been creating his own bait mixes since childhood with his fishing buddy Erik de Snoo. Since he’d also been working in disability care since he was nineteen, we saw a partnership with a therapeutic farm as the key to professionalizing and scaling up our business. Ever since that day, entrepreneurship and social responsibility have gone hand in hand for us.

Today we’re in a beautiful warehouse with the De Dagvlinder day program in Zuidland. Our clients handle all the packaging and shipping. A friendship between Lex, Erik, and owner Tobias has made this a successful partnership—we ship throughout the EU every day.

The fishing stores in
At the end of 2022, we made the move into retail. One of the very first stores to carry our product line was Hareco Hengelsport in Sliedrecht. In the wake of the pandemic and Brexit, the need for a reliable European supplier grew. Together with our sales representative, Gerrit Verschoor, we expanded our dealer network to more than 60 fishing stores in the Netherlands and abroad.

Fruity Icecream — The Winter Specialist
We were missing a bait specifically designed for the cold months. That’s why we developed a recipe featuring a very mild blend of ingredients, plenty of fiber, a striking color, and powerful attractants that remain active even in cold water. The catches exceeded all expectations. Due to the excellent results and high customer demand, we decided to make this boilie available year-round. Today, the Fruity Icecream, along with the Drukz, is our best-selling boilie.

A new building in Zuidland
Cuyten Boilies is moving to a new, larger facility in Zuidland. This will provide more space for production, storage, and daily shipping throughout Europe. It lays the foundation for further expansion without compromising on quality.

Fish'n Berry — the best of both worlds
The market demanded both a sweet and a fishmeal boilie. We developed our sweet strawberry boilie, the Berries, using high-quality fish meals, yeast extract, and a fish hydrolysate. A unique combination of sweet and savory attractants. What stood out immediately was an exceptionally fast, instant response, and even shy, hard-to-catch carp were lured in. We had something special on our hands.
